Flexible


SACS® is a modular software with a unique flexibility designed to be used for acquisition, storage, display, analysis and communication of signals in health care and medical research. SACS® can handle all kind of signals. All data samples, biological (e.g. EEG) as well as technical (e.g. MPEG video), are store together within the same database giving very fast access and efficient synchronization. The modularity and flexibility allows SACS® to be customized for each user. Today SACS® is in use for all EEG applications, movement analysis, multi parameter monitoring within intensive care units, lung mechanic measurements, tissue impedance, experimental research, cardiology, etc.


User friendly


A close collaboration with clinicians has given SACS® a highly efficient user interface and a unique functionality. A great effort has been made to minimize interaction and avoid delays. The design allows SACS® to be tailored for different users and to be adapted for multiple types of registrations. The screen interface can be customized and no user has to see a greater complexity than he needs.


Safe


SACS® has a number of unique safety features. No data will be lost or misinterpreted.


• Samples are tagged with their origin and time. Samples are not stored in matrix files and no channel confusion can take place.

• All data samples are store together within the same database. The used databases have very high data security.
• No more than 10 seconds of data will ever be lost in case of a power failure.

• Recordings that are undeliberately removed or have disappeared during transport (e.g. if moveable disks are used) can be fully restored.

• An internal buffer at recording workstations can keep many hours of data, The buffers can be reviewed for unmarked episodes which can be selected for permanent storage.

• All event changes are traceable to ensure medico legal safety.

• The Locker is a function that keeps the screen visible but makes the keyboard and mouse locked during unattended registration.

• Only correct patient identification codes can be used. Patient identification can only be changed by a system administrator.

• The server database can be fully restored upp to less than 10 seconds prior to failure.

• Critcal commands and warning messages are logged.
Powerfull database


All SACS® data is stored in databases. This solution is highly scalable. In a stand-alone workstation a simple file based database (e.g. Microsoft Access) will work well. In a networked environment a true server database will be used. SACS® Server Database will handle several terabytes of data and a great number of simultaneous users without degradation.

The SACS® Concept can be used for any signal handling task you can think of.


The SACS® Concept is based on a central module, the SACS® Kernel. All other modules can connect to this through the standardized SACS® module interface. The interface supports SACS® generic objects, which can contain any type of signal, e.g. EEG or video. Some modules do not need to interpret the embedded signals, e.g. database interface or communication modules, and can handle any type of signal introduced in the system today or in the future. The main user interface, Control, is also a module. This makes it possible to select different user interface for different applications. The open interface makes it possible for anyone with programming skills to add new modules to the system.

The SACS® Platform is utilizing the powerful Windows NT and makes it easy to design applications.


The platform includes a graphical tool that makes it easy to design new applications from the set of modules installed in the system. No programming is needed to design an application.
SACS® is implemented as a software platform in Windows NT. Using this operating system, with its advantageous features that makes it superior to Microsofts operating systems for the home market (Windows 98 etc.), made it possible to design SACS® as a most powerful and reliable platform.


The SACS® Application can compete with any other system in functionality and user friendliness.


SACS® is designed to be the user-friendliest system for any task. The complexity determined by the flexibility in SACS® is not experienced by users not needing it. As the system is extremely easy to adapt to different user, all users can have the functionality and interface design they want.
